Russell Knox, a Jacksonville University graduate who lives in Ponte Vedra Beach, is among the local players in the PGA Tour Q-School presented by Korn Ferry next week at the TPC Sawgrass Dye’s Valley and the Sawgrass Country Club.

The final field of 168 players for the PGA Tour Q-School presented by Korn Ferry includes 16 PGA Tour winners and 18 players with First Coast or South Georgia ties.

The 72-hole qualifier, with five PGA Tour cards at stake and varying degrees of Korn Ferry Tour status below that, will be Dec. 14-17. Each competitor will play two rounds each at the TPC Sawgrass Dye’s Valley and Sawgrass Country Club.

The list of past Tour winners is led by Sean O’Hair and Scott Piercy with four victories and Russell Knox of Ponte Vedra Beach, Patton Kizzire of St. Simons Island, Ga., Robert Streb and Fabian Gomez with two each.

Also in the field who have won on the PGA Tour in the past include Kevin Chappell, Austin Cook, Adam Long, Kevin Tway and Richy Werenski.

Other area players in the field are Bartram Trail graduate and past DP World Tour winner Julian Suri of St. Augustine, Ponte Vedra High graduate Taylor Funk, former University of Florida player and 2023 NCAA individual champion Fred Biondi, Baldwin graduate Dillon Board and former Jacksonville University player Raul Pereda.

What else is at stake at Q-School?

After the top five players, plus ties, the next 40 finishers and ties will earn exempt status through multiple reshuffles of the 2024 Korn Ferry Tour season, with the first 25 finishers and ties being subject to the third reshuffle, and any remaining finishers within the category being subject to the second reshuffle

All remaining finishers will have Korn Ferry Tour membership, in addition to being exempt through the Latin America Swing of the 2024 PGA Tour Americas season

Can the public attend Q-School?

The rounds at Dye’s Valley are open to the public but not at Sawgrass, which is a private club and has limited parking.

Tickets are $5 each, with all proceeds donated to area charities. Tickets are available by visiting pgatourqschool.com/tickets.

Parking is free at the Valley Course.

How to watch PGA Tour Q-School on TV

The final two rounds will be aired on Golf Channel from 2:30-4:30 p.m. on Dec. 16 and 1:30-4:30 p.m. on Dec. 17, with Shane Bacon as the host, James Nitties the analyst and Gary Christian as the on-course reporter. Emilia Migliaccio will do post-round interviews.

Live streaming on Golf Channel Digital and Peacock will be available prior to the Golf Channel coverage of the final two rounds.

Is there a purse for the Q-School?

It’s not Players Championship money but the winner will have a nice check for four days of work: $50,000 out of a $510,000 total purse.

To put that into perspective, Kevin Kisner earned $48,750 for finishing last in the 2023 Players. Winner Scottie Scheffler pulled down $4.5 million.
