What was the final rank of Northern Kentucky golfers in the KHSAA state tournament?

The Kentucky High School Athletic Association‘s golf season has officially come and gone with the season’s last tournament wrapping up on Saturday, Oct. 7.

The KHSAA girls tournament wrapped up on Oct. 4 at Bowling Green Country Club and the boys followed up to complete the state tournaments. Here is how Northern Kentucky athletes finished in the state finals.

Cooper’s Ramage finishes top 5

Cooper junior Reagan Ramage, who reached state after winning the 7th Region by four strokes, shot a 148 over two days to finish in a tie for fourth place overall. In last season’s state tournament, Ramage had a 150 and finished tied for fifth place.

After day one, Ramage had a 72 round, which was tied for the second-lowest score of the tournament with eventual winner Trinity Beth from Marshall County. Ramage shot a 76 on day two, slipping slightly to finish in that tie for fourth. State champ Trinity Beth shot a 69, a low for the round, to finish with a three-under-par 141 over the tournament.

Cooper girls take the bronze

Led by Ramage’s high finish, the Cooper Jaguars finished third overall in the team competition. Cooper shot a combined 643, finishing just one stroke behind runner-up Marshall County and 25 strokes behind state champ Sacred Heart.

Sacred Heart was the wire-to-wire leader of the tournament, having low rounds on both days. Cooper sat in second after day one by shooting a 316, 15 strokes behind Sacred Heart. The Jags had a 327 as a team on day two while Marshall County had a 318, sneaking ahead of Cooper by a stroke overall.

After Ramage, Cooper was helped by top 15 finishes from Eva Maley and Kendall Brissey. Maley’s 157 was good to finish in a tie for 12th while Brissey was just behind in 15th with a 159. Also included in scoring for Cooper was Ava Finke, who had a 179 over the two rounds for a 61st overall finish.

Ryle boys take 7th

For the boys tournament, Ryle had a 648 to take seventh place in the team competition. The Raiders had a 333 in round one, the worst score from a team by nine strokes. On day two, Ryle found a groove to shoot a 315 while moving from a distant ninth-place finish to seventh, just two strokes off from fifth-place Marshall County.

Paxton McKelvey led Ryle with a 155, finishing tied for 25th overall and Tanner Lorms was close behind with a 158, finishing tied for 36th. Palmer McKelvey’s 164 was tied for 54th place and Andrew Roach rounded out scoring for the Raiders with a 171, finishing tied for 68th.

Christian Academy-Louisville’s Brady Smith cruised to his second-consecutive individual state championship, shooting an eight-under-par 136, including a 65 in round one and a 71 in round two. Both of Smith’s scores were the low rounds for the day.

How did other individuals finish?

Outside of those golfers playing along with their teams, some individual qualifiers made the cut at state as well.

In the girls tournament, Ryle’s Anika Okuda had a 165, finishing tied for 25th place.
