‘Hall of shame performance’ – Twitter reacts as Romelu Lukaku hauled off after woeful display in loss to Arsenal

TWITTER blasted Romelu Lukaku’s “hall of shame performance” as the Chelsea striker endured another terrible night in blue.

The £97million man got the nod for the 4-2 London derby defeat against Arsenal.

But he was totally anonymous throughout his 60 minutes on the pitch.

And fans on social media were quick to criticise the under-firing flop, who is still stuck on just five Premier League goals this term.

One said: “Lukaku worst signing of the season? Gotta be.”

Another wrote: “Lukaku is so poor.”

A third added: “Another hall of shame performance from Lukaku. £100m. What an utter embarrassment, doesn’t even try.”

And a further user commented: “If you look in Lukaku’s pocket, you’ll find Lukaku. That’s how bad he is at the moment.”

Lukaku managed just 22 touches in his hour-long display.

By comparison, Thiago Silva had racked up 20 by the time the striker came off – and the Brazilian only replaced Andreas Christensen at half-time.

The Belgian managed one shot which was off target.

Manager Thomas Tuchel refused to talk about the striker’s display and suggested anyone who allegedly booed when he came off would have been Arsenal fans.

But Sky Sports pundit Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink did not hold back.

The former Chelsea man slammed: “He doesn’t do enough, you need to run around and show you are bothered, you need to suffer.

“He doesn’t go into the space, he is very static.

“You need to at least show some passion, there was no passion from Lukaku.”

Plenty more weighed in with their views on Twitter.

One said: “Lukaku ran off like he has somewhere to go.”

Another added: “Another performance from Lukaku that screams £10m, not £100m.”

A third wrote: “If you ever feel useless just remember that Chelsea bought Lukaku two times and he flopped both times.”

A final user quipped: “I wonder when we’ll see Lukaku on the pitch, very strange he was on the lineup but wasn’t playing.”

However, one fan did defend Lukaku – and said he was no worse than any of his team-mates.

A supporter said: “Why all the Lukaku abuse here lol guy did his best. The entire team ain’t it.”
