Maguire has been praised for his leadership qualities and his ability to organise the defence, and he believes he is now ready to take on a more prominent role in the team.
Speaking to the club’s official website, Maguire said: “I’ve been told by the manager that I’m a top centre back and I’m ready to lead this team to plenty more trophies.

The 27-year-old has also been a regular in the England team, and he believes his experience at international level has helped him to develop as a player.
“Playing for England has been a great experience for me,” he said. “It’s been a great learning curve and I’ve been able to take a lot of the things I’ve learned back to United.
“I’m confident in my ability and I’m confident in the team. We’ve got a great group of players here and I’m sure we can achieve great things together.”
