Jamie Carragher has warned that Liverpool need a whopping six new signings before next summer, despite Arne Slot’s dominant debut season in the Premier League.
The Reds maintain a strong lead at the top of the table, as Arsenal trail them by 12 points with eight games to go. Liverpool are five wins away from notching a record-equalling 20th English top-flight title, placing them level with Man United.
They have lost just one game in the league this season – a 1-0 defeat by Nottingham Forest back in September – and five more in all competitions.
Most recently, PSG bounced Liverpool out of the Champions League, just days before Newcastle denied Slot of his first trophy on Merseyside in the EFL Cup final.
Despite these minor blemishes, Slot’s inaugural season in the north-west has been a resounding success, as Liverpool already have one hand on the Premier League title.
Nevertheless, Carragher insisted that his former side still have much work to do in the transfer market. The Liverpool legend named six positions that the Reds must strengthen if they wish to build on this season’s success.

The average age of Liverpool’s squad this season is the fifth-highest in the Premier League (26.7 years old)

Carragher warned that the Reds need to sign a centre back to avoid a ‘crisis’ if Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate sustain injuries
‘When a team win the league, you anticipate one or two big signings to keep the juggernaut moving,’ Carragher told The Telegraph.
‘In all honesty, when looking at Slot’s squad, it feels like he may need as many as six before next summer.’
Carragher noted that Liverpool must add depth in defence, especially at centre back, if they wish to avoid a ‘crisis’ in the absence of Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate.
He also identified left back and central midfield as two more positions where Liverpool could do with some more legs.
The former defender added: ‘Liverpool need a left back to compete with Andy Robertson, extending the Scottish captain’s Anfield career by reducing the necessity for him to play every game.
‘They need a centre back to ensure there is no crisis if Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konaté are unavailable. Also a deep central midfielder so that Ryan Gravenberch and Alexis Mac Allister are not as overburdened next season as they have been in this one.
Carragher went on to argue that Liverpool could benefit from the addition of attacking weapons, including a new attacking midfielder and another forward to ease Mohamed Salah’s goalscoring burden.
‘Add to that an attacking midfielder who will score and create more than Dominik Szoboszlai.
And finally a left winger and centre forward who can win games as often as Mohamed Salah.’
