One of the more interesting stories about Shane McMahon is his time spent “babysitting” Mike Tyson. According to WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross, Shane was tasked with keeping an eye on the former heavyweight champion during his time in the WWE.

“Shane McMahon was the guy that Vince McMahon put in charge of Mike Tyson,” Ross said in an interview with Sports Illustrated. “Shane was the guy that was responsible for Mike Tyson. He was the babysitter.”

Ross went on to explain that Tyson was a huge fan of the WWE and had an incredible knowledge of the product. “Mike was a huge fan of the product,” Ross said. “He was a student of the game. He knew the names of the guys, he knew the storylines, he knew the angles. He was a huge fan.”

Tyson’s involvement with the WWE began in 1998 when he was the special guest enforcer for the main event of WrestleMania XIV. Tyson was a huge hit with the fans and his involvement helped to draw a record-breaking 1.2 million pay-per-view buys.

Tyson would go on to have a few more appearances in the WWE, including a memorable confrontation with Stone Cold Steve Austin at WrestleMania XV. Tyson’s involvement with the WWE was a huge success and it was Shane McMahon who was tasked with keeping an eye on him.
