However, middle-order batters David Miller and Aiden Markram smashed brilliant half-centuries to guide the Proteas to victory.

During the post-match presentation ceremony, India captain Rohit Sharma said that they were fully aware of the fact that the Perth surface will be helpful for the seamers. He added that the 76-run stand between David Miller and Aiden Markram was a match-winning partnership. Rohit Sharma said:

“We expected that the pitch will have something in it. We knew that there’ll be a lot of help for the seamers, that’s why it wasn’t an easy target to chase. We fell a little short with the bat. We fought well, but South Africa were better today. When you see that score (40/3 in 10), you’ll always think you’re in the game. That was a match-winning partnership from Markram and Miller.”

Rohit Sharma expressed disappointment over India’s fielding performance in the high-profile game against South Africa. Notably, India were very poor on the field as they dropped a few catches and missed run-out opportunities. Rohit Sharma stated:

“We were a little poor on the field, we gave so many chances in the field and we weren’t clinical. We were just not good enough. The last two games, we were pretty good in the field. We couldn’t hold our chances, we missed a few run-outs. We need to keep our heads high and take learning from this game.”

Rohit Sharma further revealed the real reason behind handing the 18th over to Ravichandran Ashwin, who conceded 13 runs and dismissed Tristan Stubbs in that over. Rohit said:

“I’ve seen what happens with the spinners in the last over, so I wanted to go the other way. If I can finish Ash, I just wanted to make sure that the seamers are bowling the right overs. You have to use it at some point. With the new batter, it was the perfect time for him to bowl. Miller played some good shots as well.”
