Kieran Tierney has been tasked with an ‘impossible job’ at Premier League title-chasing Arsenal, according to former Gunners star Ray Parlour.

The Scotland international joined the north London club from Celtic in the summer of 2019 and has since become a regular in Mikel Arteta’s starting XI.

However, Parlour believes that Tierney has been handed an almost impossible task in trying to help Arsenal challenge for the Premier League title.

The former midfielder told talkSPORT: “Kieran Tierney has been a great signing for Arsenal, but he’s been given an impossible job.

“He’s been asked to come in and help Arsenal challenge for the title, but it’s just not going to happen.

“He’s a great player and he’s done well since he joined, but he’s been asked to do too much.”

Parlour believes that Tierney’s best chance of success at Arsenal is to focus on the team’s defensive stability, rather than trying to help the club challenge for the title.

He added: “The best thing he can do is to help Arsenal become more solid defensively.

“If they can do that, then they can start to challenge for the top four and maybe even the title in the future.

“But it’s going to take time and it’s going to be a long process.”

Tierney has made a total of 33 appearances for Arsenal this season, scoring one goal and providing four assists.

The 23-year-old has been a key part of Arteta’s side and has been praised for his defensive work, as well as his attacking contributions.

However, it remains to be seen whether Tierney can help Arsenal challenge for the Premier League title in the near future.
