Liverpool are seriously considering the sale of Luis Diaz to Bayern Munich, according to football transfer news expert Florian Plettenberg.

The Anfield club have publicly expressed eagerness to retain the Colombia international, who delivered an impressive 17 goals and five assists for Arne Slot’s side last term.

Plettenberg claims that Liverpool’s stance is designed purely as a negotiating tactic to drive a higher price for Luis Diaz, who is already said to have snubbed interest from Barca.

The 28-year-old is said to be open to a transfer if an “exciting offer” is submitted, and Bundesliga champions Bayern are aiming to provide just that after missing out on Florian Wirtz, who moved to the Reds, and Nico Williams, who signed a new 10-year contract with Athletic Club.

Indeed, it has even been claimed that Luis Diaz has handed in a transfer request to leave Liverpool.

What is a fair price for Luis Diaz?

Liverpool reportedly want at least €82 million as an upfront fee to sell Luis Diaz – far in excess of the €53m they paid Porto to sign the player in the summer of 2022.

Luis Diaz’s Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) sits at €50.4m, but had reached a career-high peak of €78.5m earlier this season.

Bayern have reportedly offered €50m, which shows there is still a big gulf in the thinking of the two clubs, even if the winger is open to a move.

Liverpool are in complete control of this situation, giving them the upper hand in this negotiation. Luis Diaz still has two years to run on his contract at Anfield, meaning that the onus will be on Bayern to make concessions, even if the Reds are more willing to sell than they publicly suggest.
