Liverpool will switch their focus to bringing in a striker after their big outlays this summer, with fans getting excited at the prospect of signing Alexander Isak after Fabrizio Romano confirmed talks had opened with Newcastle over a deal.

Arne Slot has been keen to build on his side’s Premier League title win by spending more than €200m already during the window on the likes of Milos Kerkez, Jeremie Frimpong and the British transfer record signing of Florian Wirtz.

Liverpool’s attention is now believed to be on a ‘top striker’, according to David Ornstein, and Romano has revealed that ‘club to club contact’ has been made with Newcastle over a move for Isak following their interest in Hugo Ekitike.

However, Newcastle have insisted that Ekitike would be brought in to play alongside their talismanic forward, although they will have to return with a better offer after seeing Frankfurt turn down their €80m written proposal, according to Sky Sport Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg.

Newcastle’s are adamant that Isak is not for sale and are hoping to tie him down to a new contract but Liverpool have now initiated talks, with Ekitike seen as a potential alternative if a move for the Swedish international is unsuccessful.

’Liverpool WILL sign Alexander Isak this summer’ claim fans

The developments surrounding Newcastle’s pursuit of Ekitike led fans to ‘predict’ that Isak would end up at Liverpool this summer, with many believing that a deal was all but a formality.

Many also felt that, having initially lined up Ekitike as a key target, Liverpool were giving Newcastle a ‘free run’ at the Frenchman in order to pave the way for Isak to end up at Anfield in a saga that could progress significantly in the coming weeks.
