Liverpool are currently the most successful club in English football, with 69 trophies to their name, three more than their arch-rivals Manchester United (68). This success has largely been down to the work of some incredible managers.

The Reds have also been the most dominant English force in European and international competition, with 14 trophies in global tournaments, including winning the Champions League on six occasions. In fact, the next best tally of European and international trophies from an English club is nine – held by Chelsea.

The majority of their success on the continent came in the late 1970s and early 1980s, with four European Cup victories in less than 10 years during that period (1976/77, 1977/78, 1980/81 and 1983/84).

As of early 2025, incumbent Arne Slot has the best win percentage in Liverpool’s history.

Jurgen Klopp and Kenny Dalglish have the second-best win percentage in Liverpool’s history, having won 61% of their respective games in charge.

Dalglish (in his first spell as manager) took over after Liverpool’s period of European dominance, but he did win three First Division titles and two FA Cup’s during his time in charge.

Klopp, for his part, is Liverpool’s most decorated manager of the Premier League era. He helped the Reds win their first league title in 30 years as well as the Champions League among a host of other honours.

In total, Liverpool have had 22 permanent managers in their history. Dalglish is the only man ever to enjoy two spells in charge of the club.

Who is the current Liverpool manager?

Arne Slot is the current Liverpool manager. He took over the role in June 2024 after leaving Feyenoord. He previously had managerial spells with AZ Alkmaar and SC Cambuur.

The Dutchman enjoyed a fairytale debut campaign in 2024/25 as his Liverpool side comfortably stormed away at the summit of the Premier League table.

Jurgen Klopp was his predecessor, overseeing a mythical nine-year spell that saw Liverpool return to the very top of European and domestic football after a barren period.
