Liverpool have reportedly prepared an ‘astronomical’ offer to beat Bayern Munich to the signing of Bayer Leverkusen wonderkid Florian Wirtz this summer.

Wirtz has been a standout performer once again for Leverkusen this season and the Bundesliga giants are holding out for a fee of around €150 million to part ways with their talisman.

And, according to Spanish outlet SPORT, Liverpool presented a ‘colossal’ offer to Wirtz in order to tempt the German international away from Bayern, with the Reds’ financial package said to be the highest on the table.

Wirtz is understood to be taking ten days to make his decision after Liverpool’s offer prompted him to reconsider his stance of pushing for Bayern, who are now thought to be ‘fearing the worst’.

Liverpool would likely pay more than €110m for Wirtz but they would also be required to sell players to finance a deal, with Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez the expected candidates to be moved on.

Barcelona ready to pounce on Diaz if Liverpool secure Wirtz

Wirtz remains Liverpool’s top target on the wings, although Real Madrid’s Rodrygo is said to be considered as an alternative if Bayern Munich end up winning the race for the Leverkusen man.

Barcelona are monitoring Liverpool’s situation in the hopes that they can move for Diaz once he becomes available, with the Colombian likely to drop out of Arne Slot’s line-up once an attacking player is signed.

Diaz is entering the final two years of his contract at Anfield and negotiations are said to be ‘frozen’ until the player’s future is resolved, with the winger keen on joining Barcelona and Liverpool open to his exit.

Barcelona are ‘optimistic’ that any progress for Liverpool in their pursuit of Wirtz will allow them to move for Diaz and director Deco admitted that the 28-year-old was a player who the club admired.

“We like Luis Diaz, we like [Marcus] Rashford and we like other wingers too. We can’t talk about players under contract with other clubs,” Deco said.
