Liverpool have been tipped to complete a major transfer that will “shake up” the window prior to the Club World Cup and will help the Anfield club land Atletico Madrid ace Julian Alvarez.

The Reds are expected to enter into negotiations with Real Madrid over a deal for Trent Alexander-Arnold, who has already announced his intention to depart Anfield as a free agent in the summer.

While Arne Slot’s side are hopeful of landing around €1.2m with that deal, a second major transfer could take place in the early days of June, with Darwin Nunez linked with a surprise move to River Plate that could pave the way for Alvarez’s arrival.

DSports reports that Liverpool have offered the Uruguay international star to the Argentine side and he could feature for them in the Club World Cup.

It adds that Darwin’s salary would not be a problem for the South American side to pay as they prepare for fixtures against Urawa Red Diamonds, Monterrey and Inter Milan in the US-based competition.

The terms of the transfer are unclear, as to whether it would be a permanent deal or even a brief loan.

Darwin Nunez to River Plate: Rating the rumour

While it would not be a surprise if Darwin Nunez were to leave Liverpool in the summer due to a strained relationship with Arne Slot, with the Reds even ready to slash their asking price for the striker to €41m.

It would, however, represent a major surprise if he were to move to River Plate.

The Reds star is set to attract interest from major European clubs, with Atletico Madrid reportedly looking at the possibility of signing him.

On top of this, FootballTransfers has revealed that he could leave for the Saudi Pro League, where he would land a major contract that would have life-changing consequences.

Liverpool want Nunez out of the Anfield door to make way for Alvarez, Anfield Watch has confirmed, but that would better seem to lend itself to a swap deal.
