Liverpool are in ‘advanced talks’ to sign Bayer Leverkusen wing-back Jeremie Frimpong, according to German media.
The Dutchman is keen to take the next step in his career this summer. Frimpong had already wanted out in previous years, but no suitable offers arrived for the Leverkusen star.
Frimpong, who has a release clause in the region of €40 million, is expected to be among the players departing the BayArena after taking his game to a new level under Alonso.
Last week, Fabrizio Romano confirmed that Frimpong is among the options being considered by Liverpool, and Sky Germany now goes a step further and claims that the 24-year-old is already in ‘advanced talks’ with the Reds.
Frimpong set for Liverpool?
The newly-minted Premier League champions are in the market for a replacement for vice-captain Trent Alexander-Arnold, who is set to link up with Bayer boss Alonso at Real Madrid.
Conor Bradley has been touted as the ideal in-house replacement for Alexander-Arnold, but Liverpool perhaps feel that the youngster is not quite ready for such an eminently important role.

As such, talks with Frimpong are taking place, with the club aware that there is no like-for-like replacement for a player as unique as Alexander-Arnold.
Frimpong has often been used by Alonso as an out-and-out winger at Leverkusen, so he would offer Liverpool something completely different to the England international. He notched an impressive 26 goals and 33 assists in 131 games under the former Reds midfielder.
The Dutchman is described as one of the ‘top options’ on Liverpool’s shortlist as he is easily attainable this summer. According to Romano, the former Man City prospect would be open to a move to Anfield.
