Liverpool have ‘enquired’ about RB Leipzig defender Castello Lukeba, according to a report.

The Reds are gearing up for a monumental transfer window that will see them significantly bolster Arne Slot’s title-winning side. The first arrival is expected to be Bayer Leverkusen wing-back Jeremie Frimpong, who is set to join for around €40 million.

Next up, Liverpool want to bring in his teammate Florian Wirtz. A first bid in excess of €100m has already been made, and reliable sources are confident that a deal will be struck for what is likely to be the biggest statement signing of the summer.

Liverpool are also currently in talks with Bournemouth over a move for left-back Milos Kerkez. The Hungarian is set to command around €50m, but he is unlikely to be their final signing.

On the contrary, Liverpool also still want to add a reliable centre-forward and a centre-back. For the latter position, they could once again look to the Bundesliga.

Liverpool want Lukeba

At least that is according to TEAMtalk, which claims that the Premier League champions have ‘enquired’ about RB Leipzig defender Castello Lukeba.

It was previously claimed that the Frenchman has handed in a transfer request, although Leipzig would ideally like to keep him. That will be difficult, however, as they will not compete in any European competition next season.

Lukeba recently had his release clause for the summer bumped up to a whopping €90m, but it is understood that Leipzig are willing to negotiate a lower fee. So far, no serious talks over a move have taken place, but he is a name being considered by sporting director Richard Hughes.

Despite being just 22, Lukeba already has four seasons of senior football under his belt, impressing first at Lyon and then at Leipzig. With compatriot Ibrahima Konate facing an uncertain future at Liverpool, Lukeba would be a sensible – albeit expensive – replacement.
