A former Rangers player could make a blockbuster move to Serie A just a couple of years after a promising spell with the Ibrox club.

Malik Tillman showed some promise during his time with Rangers, but few would have envisioned that two years after leaving Glasgow he would be linked with a massive move to Serie A outfit Atalanta.

The USMNT attacking midfielder is currently starring with PSV in the Eredivisie. With the 22-year-old having scored 15 and five more across all competitions this season, he has had a €50 million price tag put on his head – and pundits in the Netherlands have warned that there is a very real danger that the Eindhoven side will lose their top star.

“Tillman shines as a creative man but also captivates the spectators in the stands with interceptions and other defensive actions,” Rik Elfrink explained.

“There is already a lot of information about Tillman on the transfer market. For PSV it is simple: the club wants to keep him. PSV won’t even talk about a transfer if there are bids below €50m. But if such an amount is tabled, there is a very real chance that the American will continue his career elsewhere.”

It had previously been claimed that Tillman had a release clause valued between €30-40m, but this does not appear to be the belief in the Netherlands.

Malik Tillman: A talent that has exploded at PSV

PSV picked Tillman up for €12m from Bayern Munich, who worked quickly to ensure that Rangers were unable to make the loan deal of the German-born attacker permanent for just €6m. Instead, they paid the Gers €1m to cancel the clause before selling him to the Dutch club.

His reputation has only grown since moving to the Eredivisie giants, where he has seen his Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) grow to €35m.

Tillman has been linked with Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa in the Premier League, but a switch to Serie A currently looks his likeliest move.

Atalanta are closely linked with him, but they would have to shatter their current transfer record if they are to meet PSV’s €50m demands.
