MANCHESTER CITY are reportedly targeting Anderlecht’s Sergio Gomez and are hoping to recruit the 21-year-old to their development squad.
The left-back is highly rated and had a breakthrough year at the Belgian club last season.
The Premier League champions are believed to have scouted him extensively and view him as a player with much potential.
The Athletic report that while the club are interested in him, their interest is not related to their ongoing pursuit for a first-team left back.
Gomez would join the development team while City could continue to pursue an experienced defender.
Along with playing at full-back, Gomez can also operate in attacking midfield.
The Spaniard joined Anderlecht from Dortmund a year ago and made 39 appearances last season, scoring six goals.
Dortmund had sent him on loan over two seasons to Huesca where he continued his development in both the second tier and then La Liga.
Before joining the German side, the defender had started his career at Barcelona but only managed two appearances for their B team.
Along with some big clubs on his CV, Gomez also has a wealth of youth international experience and has represented Spain from U16 level upwards.

While City look towards the future, boss Pep Guardiola will also be focusing on the present where City are chasing a left-back who can immediately fill the void left by Oleksandr Zinchenko.
But the club’s efforts to land Brighton defender Marc Cucurella looked to have stalled due to the Seagulls’ high asking price.
Cucurella even tried to force the issue by handing in a transfer request at the end of last month.
His hopes for move could still happen though after Chelsea reportedly rekindled their interest in the full-back.
