Manchester United are set to ‘overhaul’ a crucial part of their team after significant developments in the transfer market which has left Ruben Amorim seeking to making a big-money upgrade.
United are exploring their next steps this summer after completing their second signing of the window in Bryan Mbeumo last week, with the loan departure of Marcus Rashford to Barcelona giving Amorim some much-needed flexibility with his resources.
With Antony also in talks to leave for a move to the Saudi Pro League, the Brazilian’s exit could unlock the pathway to another major signing which could be in the goalkeeping area.
United are said to have placed a price tag in excess of €40 million on Onana, with Monaco and clubs from Saudi Arabia credited with an interest, although the player’s decision will ‘significantly impact’ the final outcome towards his future.
Onana’s departure would allow United to pursue a ‘coveted prize’ on their shortlist in Gianluigi Donnarumma, while scouts are reported to have already been dispatched to ‘closely observe’ Porto’s Diogo Costa, with the duo seen as the club’s top targets to be Amorim’s new number one goalie.
Onana decision could open door to major goalkeeping signing
Donnarumma’s future has come under doubt in recent days as he enters the final year of his contract with Paris Saint-Germain, with the Ligue 1 giants having already agreed personal terms with Lille’s Lucas Chevalier as a potential replacement.
While Donnarumma is said to be prioritising an extension with PSG, the 26-year-old is said to be ‘dissatisfied’ with the current terms being offered, leaving United to carefully monitor the situation in the hopes of eventually making their move.
Costa, meanwhile, has long-been linked with a move to the Premier League and the Porto captain has a release clause in his contract believed to be worth an excess of €50m.
However, much will depend on the future of Onana and whether the Cameroonian is open to an exit, or whether United even receive an acceptable offer for their current number one’s services.
