Manchester United‘s chances of signing Atalanta goalkeeper Marco Carnesecchi have increased after the Italian side identified a replacement.

There have been multiple reports over the past week or so that United have made a move for the Atalanta number one, who enjoyed an outstanding season in Serie A last term.

Caprile was on loan last season from Napoli at Cagliari, whom he will join permanently now for €8 million.

Cagliari will likely sell Caprile straight on for a profit, and TuttoAtalanta reports that Atalanta want him as the heir to Carnesecchi.

Carnesecchi to Man Utd?

Carnesecchi will not come cheap, with TuttoAtalanta reporting that Atalanta have informed United that they value the goalkeeper at €45-50 million.

Carnesecchi was one of the best goalkeepers in Serie A last season as Atalanta finished third.

After Roma’s Mile Svilar, the Italian was arguably the most consistent goalkeeper in the division.

A brilliant shot-stopper with a massive frame and good personality, Carnesecchi has impressed Man Utd scouts who are searching for a replacement for Andre Onana.

United bought the Cameroonian for a fee of around €55 million from Inter in 2023 but he has been a big disappointment.
