Ruben Amorim has confirmed that Alejandro Garnacho wants to leave Manchester United this summer following the pair’s public bust-up.
Garnacho, 21, made 58 appearances across all competitions last season, but he was named on the substitutes bench during Man Utd’s 1-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League final in May and this resulted in a major dispute with Amorim.
“Garnacho is a really talented boy, but sometimes things don’t work out,” the Man Utd boss told reporters (via GOAL).
“You cannot explain specifically what it is. But I have the feeling that Garnacho wants a different thing with a different leadership. And I can understand that. It’s not a problem.
“Sometimes you adapt to one guy, you have the connection. Other times, you want a new challenge. We try to make everything okay to all the parts, to the club, to the coach and to the players. It’s a natural thing in football.”
Amorim continued: “There are players that clearly show that they don’t want to be here, and that is normal. It’s not that they’re bad and I’m good, or I’m bad and they’re good.
“It’s not that situation. It’s a simple situation that they want new challenges. If the market closes and they are still Manchester United players, we as a club have to treat them under the same conditions.
“But at this moment, I’m just working with the players I think are going to stay, and the other guys are trying to find a solution for their careers.”
Alejandro Garnacho drops Chelsea transfer hint
Amorim’s comments come after Garnacho dropped a major transfer hint on social media.
The Argentina international has set his sights on completing a move to Chelsea this summer and he recently ‘liked’ an Instagram post from Fabrizio Romano, which confirmed the Blues’ interest in his services.
This is seen as confirmation that Garnacho is eager to join Chelsea before the end of the summer transfer window on 1 September, despite their continued pursuit of RB Leipzig star Xavi Simons and the recent signing of Borussia Dortmund winger Jamie Gittens.
