Matheus Cunha is set to become Manchester United’s first summer signing as Ruben Amorim’s side close in on a deal to sign the Wolverhampton Wanderers forward.

The Brazil international, 25, has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford in recent months and the Red Devils have been in talks with his representatives for several weeks.

The transfer expert posted on X: “Manchester United are now closing in on Matheus Cunha deal!

“The Brazilian has accepted the project as agreement on personal terms is now being finalised, almost done.

“Final details to sort between all parties involved… and then, here we go.”

Cunha is expected to sign a long-term contract at Old Trafford, and Man Utd are set to engage in talks with Wolves over the payment structure of his €74 million (£62.5m) release clause very soon.

The Man Utd hierarchy are reportedly all in agreement that Cunha is the perfect signing to bolster Amorim’s forward options, with the Brazilian likely to be deployed in an attacking midfield role behind a new number nine.

Victor Osimhen and Liam Delap are among Man Utd’s priority striker targets as they look to sign a suitable upgrade on both Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee.

Matheus Cunha to join Man Utd

Cunha will leave Wolves this summer after a successful two-and-a-half year stint at Molineux, during which time he has scored 33 goals in 90 appearances for the club.

When his move to Man Utd is confirmed, Cunha will become Wolves’ all-time record sale, eclipsing the €62m fee earned through Matheus Nunes’ move to Manchester City in 2023.
