Newcastle are closing in on the signing of Nottingham Forest winger Anthony Elanga, and Manchester United will be owed 15 per cent of the profit generated, according to a report.

The Sweden international has become the Magpies’ top target for the right wing after Bryan Mbeumo informed his suitors that he has his heart set on a move to Man Utd.

Despite Jacob Murphy proving a revelation last season, Newcastle are keen to sign an upgrade. Elanga, who himself is coming off a real standout campaign, is viewed as being perfectly suited to Eddie Howe’s style of play.

The 23-year-old netted six goals and provided 12 assists in 43 appearances across all competitions last term. He is Premier League-proven, is willing to graft and contribute defensively and can still reach another level in his development.

Naturally, these traits make him an expensive commodity, and Newcastle will have to shell out a significant fee to secure his signature, which is music to the ears of everyone at Man Utd.

Man Utd to receive millions from Elanga move

After seeing a £45 million bid rejected by Nottingham Forest last week, Newcastle have now returned with an improved £55m offer. The Daily Mail reports that a deal is ‘on the verge’ of being agreed.

The report adds that Elanga’s former club Man Utd will be due 15 per cent of the profit Forest generate from his sale. The Swede moved to the City Ground in 2023 for €16m, and the old Red Devils regime had the foresight to insert a sell-on clause in his deal.

Should Newcastle’s latest £55m (€64m) offer be accepted, Forest will make a profit of €48m, which means that the Old Trafford outfit would pocket a handsome €7.2m.

Elanga currently has an Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) of €49.4m, so Newcastle are paying a significant premium. Man Utd won’t care, though, as they will be delighted to have more funds available to fund their own summer business.
