The need to raise funds quickly has forced Manchester United to lower their price tags for unwanted players such as Alejandro Garnacho, Antony and Marcus Rashford, according to a report.

The Red Devils have splashed the cash despite heading into the summer window in a less-than-favourable financial situation. It was thought that Man Utd would be unable to spend big without significant sales, but this proved to be untrue.

The Old Trafford club have shelled out around €150 million on Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha without notable outgoings, but it is now becoming increasingly clear that they have stretched their financial wiggle room to the limit.

Man Utd still want to sign a big-name No.9, a new midfielder and potentially a defender. However, to do so, they now simply have to sell players. To be sure, there is no shortage of unwanted stars on the books at Old Trafford, but shifting them has proved difficult so far.

Marcus Rashford is on his way to Barcelona in a loan deal, but while Man Utd will save a fortune on his wages, his temporary exit alone won’t be enough to solve their issues, especially since he won’t yield a fee until next year. The Blaugrana will be able to sign him for €30 million, a sizeable reduction from this summer’s €48m asking price.

Man Utd slash Garnacho price

According to The Telegraph, Rashford isn’t the only player for whom Man Utd have had to lower their initial demands due to a lack of movement. The outlet also names the likes of Alejandro Garnacho, Antony and Jadon Sancho as falling into that category.

Clubs are well aware of the fact that Man Utd have to sell, and they have no intention of making life easy for the Red Devils, whose desperation is increasing by the day. Ruben Amorim’s well-documented ostracising of these players has seen their value plummet, and the situation with Garnacho, in particular, is ‘untenable.’

Man Utd headed into the summer demanding as much as €80m for the Argentine, who has been the subject of interest from Chelsea, Tottenham and Aston Villa. However, suitors now believe that the Old Trafford club would cave at a figure closer to €45m-€46m.

Sancho and Antony, too, are likely to be much cheaper than initially anticipated. Juventus have placed bids worth just €10m and €17m for the former, while Real Betis have made it clear that the latter’s €50m price tag is unreasonable and are in talks over a new loan.
