According to French media, Marseille have decided that Mason Greenwood is by no means ‘untouchable’ this summer, which will have Manchester United licking their lips.

The disgraced former Red Devils star has been trying to resurrect his career over the past two years, initially on loan at Getafe and then permanently at Marseille.

Only Ballon d’Or contender Ousmane Dembele has bettered the one-time England international’s goal tally this season, with Greenwood having found the back of the net 19 times in the French top flight.

At the weekend, Greenwood scored against Le Havre to secure Marseille’s place in next season’s Champions League. Despite this, he could be offloaded by the French outfit.

Greenwood on the market

According to RMC, Greenwood is far from ‘untouchable’ this summer, with Marseille open to cashing in on him at the right price. The 23-year-old has faced criticism from head coach Roberto de Zerbi for his lack of application and could be sacrificed in the upcoming window.

It has been a crazy season at Marseille, and the club will carry out a rigorous squad review heading into the summer to decide which players to keep and which to get rid of.

It has been suggested that Greenwood is being courted by Barcelona, who reportedly want to reunite him with his former Man Utd teammate Marcus Rashford. However, they currently can’t afford Rashford, let alone him and Greenwood.

Still, Marseille expect significant interest in Greenwood, and they would be willing to engage in talks should a sizeable sum of money be put on the table.

Man Utd, for their part, will certainly hope that a bidding war materialises as they would be due 50 per cent of the profit Marseille generate on their original €26 million investment.
