Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim has reportedly been informed that he must win the Europa League in order to sign RB Leipzig attacking midfielder Xavi Simons this summer.

The Netherlands international sealed a permanent move to Leipzig for €50 million during the January transfer window, but he is expected to leave the club ahead of the 2025-26 season and Man Utd are one of the leading candidates to land his signature.

Bayern Munich, Liverpool and Manchester City are also interested in signing Simons, however Man Utd are eager to finalise an agreement for the 21-year-old as they believe he is the perfect player to thrive in Amorim’s 3-4-3 system.

That is according to The Daily Mail, who claim that winning the Europa League, and securing Champions League qualification in the process, could be incredibly important for Man Utd’s summer transfer business.

The Red Devils could earn €117m (£120m) if they are able to qualify for Europe’s elite club competition and that “jackpot” revenue could be reinvested into the playing squad at Amorim’s disposal.

In addition to Simons, Man Utd are also reportedly interested in signing Liam Delap (Ipswich Town), Antoine Semenyo (Bournemouth), Benjamin Sesko (RB Leipzig) and Matheus Cunha (Wolverhampton Wanderers) this summer as Amorim looks to oversee a major revamp.

Xavi Simons to Man Utd?

The Transfers Podcast understands that Bayern Munich were heavily interested in signing Simons last summer and Vincent Kompany’s side remain interested in landing the Dutchman this year.

However, Man Utd have listed Simons as a key transfer target due to his versatility and his age, as per The Daily Mail.

The Netherlands star has scored 10 goals and provided six assists in 29 appearances across all competitions so far this season, while his Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) currently stands at a career high of €79.7m.
