RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko would be fine with staying put if Manchester United showed themselves unable to sign him this summer, according to a report.

The Slovenia international was widely expected to be one of the most in-demand names in this transfer window. Sesko opted to snub Arsenal last summer and is seemingly paying the price for it this year.

The Gunners have pivoted to Viktor Gyokeres, leaving the 22-year-old in limbo. Sesko is still expected to be on the move, but his future is much less clear now than it was just a few weeks ago.

In recent days, Man Utd have reignited their interest in the young striker, but there is no guarantee that they will be able to sign him. Arsenal left the talks for Sesko due to Leipzig’s excessive demands, thought to have been between €90 million and potentially up to €100m.

Man Utd, after spending over €150 million on Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo, are not believed to be in a position to sign Sesko without making some significant sales first.

Sesko to Man Utd – or Chelsea?

According to Sky Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg, it is true that Man Utd are concretely interested in Sesko, but the transfer insider insists that the Slovenian would also be content to stay at Leipzig for another season if no convincing offer materialises.

Moreover, and quite intriguingly, Plettenberg is also refusing to rule out potential interest from Chelsea completely. The Blues were previously keen on Sesko, but it was presumed that they officially ended their pursuit when they signed Liam Delap, a player quite similar in profile.

“Benjamin Sesko is a player who says, ‘Okay, if there is not the right offer this summer, I can also imagine staying at RB Leipzig,'” Plettenberg told Sky Sports.

“But there are also now many, many movements in the background, and there are also talks with interested clubs to our clear understanding that Manchester United is targeting him.

“He’s one of two or three candidates as a new number nine striker for United. Then the other one is Nicolas Jackson. I cannot close the door for a possible Chelsea interest. Let’s see what will happen in the next two or three weeks with Benjamin Sesko.”
