Manchester United know the identity of their first major signing of the summer transfer window, according to a well-respected journalist.

The Red Devils have already pinned down the signing of young full-back Diego Leon from Cerro Porteno, but they have yet to agree a deal that will strengthen Ruben Amorim’s first-team squad.

According to Samuel Luckhurst of the Manchester Evening News, that could all be about to change.

“Manchester United’s interest in Matheus Cunha is now so advanced it would be a surprise if the deal does not materialise,” Luckhurst says.

The Brazil international is said to “love” the club while there is no need to negotiate a transfer fee because he has a release clause in his deal with Wolves. This is worth €73 million, and while the Red Devils may try to negotiate this downwards, it appears this is a price that they are willing to pay.

There is the potential of a small sticking point with agent Jorge Mendes, who has to sign off each major deal at Wolves due to his agency’s links with the club, though it appears this is little more than a formality.

Cunha the first of THREE attacking signings

While Cunha is set to hook up with Man Utd sooner or later, the MEN also reports that there will be two new attacking signings joining the club.

One will be an additional No.10, while there is also the expectation that there will be another winger added to Amorim’s ranks to challenge Alejandro Garnacho’s dominance of the position.

It seems that attention has shifted away from the defence and, to an extent, the midfield, to focus on the attack this summer, with Cunha expected to be the first of three blockbuster deals.
