Manchester United have identified one of Serie A‘s most promising defenders as their next summer transfer target.

The Red Devils are currently focusing on completing a deal to sign Leipzig forward Benjamin Sesko.

Multiple outlets, including Fabrizio Romano have confirmed that Sesko has agreed personal terms with United and wants to join them over Newcastle.

United have also tabled a better offer to Leipzig than Newcastle, and so the feeling is that the Red Devils should complete this transfer.

Man Utd next target after Sesko

And Nicolo Schira reports on Wednesday that United’s next player of interest after Sesko is Fiorentina defender Pietro Comuzzo.

Schira says that United are monitoring Comuzzo with a view to making a potential move for the centre back.

Bournemouth and Sunderland are also interested in signing the 20-year-old, although Fiorentina want to keep him.

Schira adds that it will take a bid of around €40 million to tempt Fiorentina into a sale.

Comuzzo is one of the most promising young Italian defenders in Serie A.

The red-haired stopper is a physical and robust player who excels in duels and is excellent aerially.

He came through the Fiorentina youth academy and made his debut for the senior team at the age of 18.

He has since gone on to make 50 appearances and became a regular during the 2024-25 season.

Comuzzo received his first call-up to the Italy national team in November 2024, although he has not yet been capped by the Azzurri.

Whether or not United make a concrete bid for Comuzzo remains to be seen as the transfer of Sesko will take United’s spending past the €200m mark this summer.

United need to offload a number of players first before they can make any other signings, with the likes of Jadon Sancho, Antony, Rasmus Hojlund and Alejandro Garnacho all for sale.
