Manchester City boss Nick Cushing says his players have the ‘bit between their teeth’ in their battle for the WSL title.
The Citizens are currently top of the table, two points ahead of second-placed Arsenal, and have a game in hand on their rivals.
Cushing’s side have been in impressive form this season, winning 11 of their 12 league games so far, and the manager believes his players are determined to win the title.
“The players have the bit between their teeth,” Cushing said. “They’re hungry to win the league and they’re determined to do it.
“We’ve got a great group of players here and they’re all pushing each other to be better. We’ve got a great team spirit and that’s been a big part of our success this season.”
Cushing has been in charge of Manchester City since 2014 and has led the club to two WSL titles, as well as two FA Cup triumphs.
The Citizens have also been impressive in Europe, reaching the semi-finals of the Champions League in both 2017 and 2018.
Cushing believes his side have the quality to win the title this season, but he is also aware of the challenge posed by Arsenal and other teams.
“We know it’s going to be a tough battle for the title,” he said. “Arsenal are a very good team and they’ve been in great form this season.
“We’ve got to keep pushing ourselves and make sure we’re at our best every week. We’ve got to keep working hard and keep believing in ourselves.”
Manchester City have a number of key players in their squad, including England internationals Steph Houghton, Lucy Bronze and Jill Scott.
Cushing believes the trio have been instrumental in the team’s success this season.
“Steph, Lucy and Jill have been fantastic this season,” he said. “They’ve been leading by example and they’ve been a big part of our success.
“They’ve been setting the standard for the rest of the team and they’ve been a big part of our success this season.”
Manchester City have a number of big games coming up, including a clash with Arsenal on April 28th.
Cushing is confident his side can continue their impressive form and win the title this season.
“We’ve got a lot of big games coming up and we’re determined to win the title,” he said. “We’ve got the quality and the determination to do it and we’re going to keep pushing ourselves to make sure we do it.”
