Manchester United sweat on Rasmus Hojlund fitness, as striker is seen with ice pack strapped to calf after scoring in 4-1 win amid Benjamin Sesko pursuit

Rasmus Hojlund was seen walking through the media zone with an ice pack strapped to his calf on Wednesday evening.

The Manchester United striker, who had scored the opening goal for Man United in their 4-1 pre-season win over, smiled to reporters as he went past.

Hojlund did not appear to be limping badly and the pack could well just be for tightness or a precautionary measure, though the extent of the injury is not yet known.

The Danish striker is under perhaps more scrutiny than any other member of Ruben Amorim’s squad as it stands.

Having struggled last season in the team’s diabolical campaign, Hojlund still has plenty to prove and United are in the market for a new frontman.

They made their move for Benjamin Sesko of RB Leipzig on Wednesday, as Mail Sport’s Chris Wheeler reported.

But at least Hojlund was able to offer his manager food for thought with a promising display in the latest Premier League Summer Series game.

He hit the post early in the game but, undeterred, he then diverted a glancing header past the keeper for the first goal of the game against the Cherries at Solider Field, Chicago.

Hojlund believed he had a third with a touch on Amad Diallo’s shot but had to settle for one in the end.

United had narrowed their top striker targets down to Ollie Watkins and Sesko but now the Slovenian powerhouse is first choice.

It’s understood the German club have a gentlemen’s agreement with the 22-year-old to let him go for £60-70m plus add-ons to certain clubs.

United have been tracking Sesko for some time and director of recruitment Christopher Vivell is a key figure in negotiations having previously worked at Leipzig and the player’s former club Red Bull Salzburg.

Sesko has scored 39 goals in 87 games for Leipzig, and 16 goals in 41 appearances for Slovenia.

United had originally hoped to sign Liam Delap this summer, but the Ipswich striker moved to Chelsea instead.

A number of other strikers have been considered, but Isak and Chelsea’s Nicolas Jackson were deemed too expensive.
