Manchester United target 'rejects new contract offer at current club – with wantaway player valued at £23.4m'

A Valencia star has reportedly rejected a new contract offer having been linked with a transfer to Manchester United this summer.

The player in question has made 82 league appearances for the LaLiga outfit having spent two years with their youth teams.

According to Spanish publication Marca, he has opted to turn down fresh terms to keep him at the Mestalla within the past week.

It is still claimed that the Red Devils are keeping an eye on the player and are working behind the scenes to bring him to Old Trafford.

That is none other than midfielder Javi Guerra, who has been a regular member of Spain’s U21 squads and scored a penalty in their European Championships quarter-final defeat to England last month.

Guerra and his agent have allegedly decide to wait for ‘something better’ from Valencia, who are willing to sell him for no less than £17million.

Their valuation may put United in a strong position to be able to buy him as they are prepared to spend up to £22million on the Spaniard.

The potential for Guerra to depart the club comes after they already lost one of their key players to another Premier League club after Christian Mosquera agreed to join Arsenal.

Mail Sport reported last Sunday that talks had advanced last weekend and the 21-year old agreed personal terms with Arsenal.

The Spaniard underwent a medical earlier this week ahead of joining the Gunners in £13million deal with added bonus payments.

Mosquera can play at both centre-back and right-back and will fill the gap in the squad left by the departure of Takehiro Tomiyasu, who mutually agreed to terminate his contract.

The Spain Under-21 international has made 90 appearances for Valencia and was a regular last season, playing the full match in 37 of the club’s 38 La Liga games.

Meanwhile, Arsenal are finalising details with Sporting Lisbon for the transfer of Victor Gyokeres.

Arteta’s side have already signed Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad, Christian Norgaard from Brentford and Kepa Arrizabalaga from Chelsea as Mikel Arteta looks to strengthen his squad following another runner’s-up finish in the Premier League.

Arsenal also confirmed the arrival of Madueke from Chelsea on Friday in a deal worth an initial £48million, rising to £52m.

The 23-year-old will wear the number 20 shirt and is set to join up with his new teammates in early August, having been involved in Chelsea’s Club World Cup campaign earlier this summer.

Arsenal are also keen to add another attacking option with Eberechi Eze from Crystal Palace high on their list of targets.
