Manchester United have announced the departures of nine players, while contract talks are taking place for a surprising name.

The Red Devils’ summer business is in full swing after a rotten season. Ruben Amorim is determined to bounce back after overseeing the worst campaign in the club’s Premier League history.

Matheus Cunha has been signed from Wolves for a whopping €74 million, and Bryan Mbeumo is expected to follow suit shortly. Man Utd are expected to agree a deal with Brentford for a fee in a similar ballpark.

However, a transfer window isn’t all about incomings. At the end of every season, players whose contracts expire get released, and it is no different at Man Utd now that their dismal campaign has come to an end.

The Old Trafford outfit have revealed their retained list and announced that nine players will not be handed an extension for their expiring contracts.

Man Utd release Eriksen, Lindelof and Evans

Unlike last year, when Man Utd surprisingly decided to part ways with star defender Raphael Varane, there are no major surprises this time around. The biggest names to leave Man Utd are Christian Eriksen, Victor Lindelof and Jonny Evans.

All three have been expected to leave the club for some time. Additionally, lesser-known players such as Hubert Graczyk, Jack Kingdon, Sam Murray, Tom Myles, James Nolan and Tom Wooster have been released.

Third-choice goalkeeper Tom Heaton has also been included on the list of released players, but with the caveat that he is currently in talks with the club over a contract extension.

The former England international has not made a competitive first-team appearance for the Red Devils since 2023, but he remains a valued member of the club, with his vast experience and homegrown status making him an ideal backup option. It remains to be seen if terms can be agreed.
