Arsenal legend Ian Wright has urged Marcus Rashford to consider a move to Newcastle United when his loan spell at Aston Villa expires this summer.

Rashford, 27, was frozen out of the Manchester United team following the appointment of Ruben Amorim as Erik ten Hag’s permanent successor last year and he completed a short-term loan move to Aston Villa during the January transfer window.

Amorim breaks silence on Cunha – ‘Everybody wants to play for Man Utd’

Since his arrival at Villa Park, Rashford has established himself as a key player under Unai Emery and he has displaced Ollie Watkins as the club’s first-choice centre forward in recent weeks.

The 27-year-old has scored four goals and provided six assists in 17 appearances for Villa and Emery’s side are interested in signing him on a permanent deal this summer.

In fact, FootballTransfers understands that Man Utd could include Rashford in a swap deal bid for Watkins as the Red Devils look to sign a suitable replacement for the misfiring Rasmus Hojlund.

Tottenham rekindle Marcus Rashford interest

However, Wright believes that Rashford could be a perfect signing for Eddie Howe’s Newcastle.

“It’s the kind of signing Newcastle should be making,” Wright admitted on his ‘Wrighty’s House’ podcast. “That would be amazing. That would be dangerous. Rashford at Newcastle? Yeah. That would be really good.

“I really like that for Rashford. Rashford at Newcastle can be dangerous.”

Anthony Gordon and Harvey Barnes are currently competing for a starting berth on the left flank at St James’ Park, but Rashford’s versatility could enable him to also deputise for Alexander Isak – who has been injury prone since moving to England – as a central striker.

Marcus Rashford to return to Man Utd?

Although Wright believes Rashford would be an excellent signing for Newcastle, he conceded that a return to Man Utd isn’t on the cards for the England international.

“Nope. No chance,” Wright replied when asked if Rashford could play a role in the first-team at Old Trafford next season.

Man Utd are expected to sign Wolverhampton Wanderers forward Matheus Cunha this summer and the sale of Rashford is set to partly fund a move for the Brazil star.
