Martin Keown, the former Arsenal defender, has blasted current Arsenal star Mesut Ozil for his indecision on the pitch, claiming that it is ‘killing everybody’.
Keown, who made over 300 appearances for the Gunners, was speaking on BT Sport’s Premier League Tonight show and was highly critical of Ozil’s lack of commitment and focus.
“He’s killing everybody,” said Keown. “He’s killing the team. He’s killing the spirit in the dressing room. He’s killing the manager. He’s killing the supporters.”
Keown went on to suggest that Ozil’s team-mates should take matters into their own hands and ‘take him out’.
“I think the players have to take him out,” said Keown. “They have to take him out of the game. They have to take him out of the team. They have to take him out of the dressing room.”
Keown’s comments come after a difficult season for Ozil, who has been criticised for his lack of effort and commitment on the pitch. The German international has been in and out of the team this season, and has failed to make an impact when he has been given the chance to play.
Ozil’s future at Arsenal is now in doubt, with reports suggesting that the club are looking to offload him in the summer. Keown believes that the club should take action now and get rid of the player.
“He’s not doing enough,” said Keown. “He’s not doing enough for the team. He’s not doing enough for the manager. He’s not doing enough for the supporters. He’s not doing enough for himself.”
Keown’s comments are sure to spark debate amongst Arsenal fans, with many feeling that Ozil still has something to offer the team. However, it is clear that Keown believes that the player is not doing enough and that the club should take action to get rid of him.
