Mason Greenwood could soon have a reunion with a familiar face from his time at Manchester United after taking a huge decision over his future.

Considered indispensable at Marseille, the once-capped England forward has been linked with a move to Cristiano Ronaldo’s Al-Nassr in the Saudi Pro League.

OM have put a block on any hopes the 23-year-old might have had of teaming up with the Manchester United legend, but he could soon be reunited with another of his former Old Trafford colleagues at Stade Velodrome.

According to The Daily Mail, Harry Maguire is being courted by Roberto De Zerbi’s side as a potential reinforcement to bolster the defence of a Marseille side in which Greenwood scored 22 goals in 36 games last season.

The link has been branded a “crazy rumour” in the French media, which indicates that Maguire’s salary of around €220,000 per week (£190,000) would likely be unattainable to OM. Furthermore, United appear to have little desire to sell the 32-year-old, who is part of Ruben Amorim’s six-man leadership group.

Greenwood set to change alliance

Greenwood, who has an Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) of €43.3 million, might have seen his chances of a reunion with Ronaldo scuppered, but that is not stopping him from taking big decisions over his future.

He has successfully applied for a passport with Jamaica and is poised to compete under the banner of the Caribbean island’s national team, according to BBC Sport.

Greenwood played once for England but has not been close to inclusion of the national team since charges against him that included attempted rape and assault were dropped in February 2023.

He is now “close to a return” to international football, with former Man Utd assistant manager Steve McLaren return to welcome him into the Jamaica setup ahead of World Cup qualifiers against Bermuda and Trinidad and Tobago.
