“I’m honored to be given the opportunity to fight Conor McGregor,” Chandler said in a statement. “He’s one of the greatest fighters of all time and I’m excited to test my skills against him. I’m going to do everything I can to make sure I’m ready for this fight and I’m looking forward to putting on a show for the fans.”
Chandler is a former three-time Bellator lightweight champion and is currently ranked No. 4 in the UFC lightweight division. He has a professional record of 22-5 and is coming off a first-round knockout win over Dan Hooker at UFC 257 in January.
McGregor, meanwhile, is the former UFC featherweight and lightweight champion and is currently ranked No. 2 in the lightweight division. He is coming off a second-round TKO win over Donald Cerrone at UFC 246 in January 2020.
The fight between McGregor and Chandler is expected to be one of the biggest fights of the year and will be the main event of UFC 264. The event is scheduled to take place on July 10 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
Chandler is confident that he can pull off the upset and become the first man to defeat McGregor in the UFC since Nate Diaz in 2016.
