Mike Tyson, the former undisputed heavyweight champion of the world, has weighed in on the upcoming return of UFC star Conor McGregor. In an interview with ESPN, Tyson said that McGregor’s tough-guy image is “a gimmick” and that he is “not really that tough.”
Tyson, who is widely considered one of the greatest boxers of all time, said that McGregor’s bravado is “crazy” and that he is “not really that tough.” He added that McGregor’s “tough-guy” image is “all a gimmick.”
McGregor is set to return to the UFC on January 23, 2021, when he will face Dustin Poirier in a rematch of their 2014 bout. The fight will be the first for McGregor since his loss to Khabib Nurmagomedov in October 2018.
McGregor has become one of the most recognizable figures in combat sports, thanks in part to his brash and often controversial persona. He has become known for his trash-talking and his willingness to engage in physical altercations outside of the octagon.
However, Tyson believes that McGregor’s tough-guy image is just an act. “He’s not really that tough,” Tyson said. “He’s just a showman. He’s a great showman. He’s a great entertainer. He’s a great fighter. But he’s not really that tough.”
Tyson also said that McGregor’s trash-talking is “crazy” and that it is “all a gimmick.” He added that McGregor is “not really that tough” and that he is “just a showman.”
Tyson’s comments come as McGregor prepares to make his return to the octagon. While McGregor has become one of the most recognizable figures in combat sports, Tyson believes that his tough-guy image is just an act. Whether or not McGregor can prove Tyson wrong remains to be seen.
