Former Premier League striker, Jack Redshaw, has joined relegation-threatened League One side Morecambe on a free transfer. Redshaw, who once cost £13.5m when he moved from Blackpool to Manchester City in 2012, has signed a deal until the end of the season.
The 30-year-old forward has been without a club since leaving Blackpool in the summer of 2018. He had been training with Morecambe since the start of the season and has now been rewarded with a contract.
Redshaw began his career at Manchester City, but failed to make a single appearance for the club. He was loaned out to Blackpool in 2013 and made a permanent move to the Seasiders the following year.
He went on to make over 100 appearances for Blackpool, scoring 24 goals. He was a key part of the team that won promotion to the Championship in 2014 and also helped the club reach the League One play-off final in 2017.
Redshaw left Blackpool in 2018 and had a brief spell with Oldham Athletic before being released. He has now been given a chance to revive his career with Morecambe, who are currently 19th in League One and just two points above the relegation zone.
Morecambe manager Derek Adams said: “Jack is a player I have known for a long time and I am delighted to have him on board. He is a proven goalscorer at this level and I am sure he will be a great addition to the squad.”
Redshaw is the latest addition to a Morecambe side that has been struggling for form this season. The Shrimps have won just four of their 22 league games so far and are in desperate need of a spark to help them climb the table.
Redshaw will be hoping to provide that spark and prove that he still has what it takes to perform at the highest level. He will be looking to make an immediate impact and help Morecambe avoid relegation to League Two.
It is a remarkable turnaround for Redshaw, who was once one of the most expensive players in the country. He will now be hoping to show that he still has what it takes to perform at the highest level and help Morecambe stay in League One.
