Why Reggie Miller can’t fathom James Harden’s trade request

Indiana Pacers legend Reggie Miller can’t figure out what James Harden is thinking.

Harden is trying to burn all his bridges with the Philadelphia 76ers, twice calling team president Daryl Morey a liar and requesting a trade from the team with the reigning MVP, Joel Embiid.

“We’re getting a front-row seat for some of the conversation between (Harden and Morey),” Miller said on NBA TV.

But one point in this dispute strikes Miller as odd: “Have you ever heard of someone not wanting to play with an MVP?”

“Think about that,” Miller said. “That would be like Jamal Murray saying, ‘I don’t want to play with (Nikola) Jokic.'” Or Khris Middleton wanting to separate from Giannis Antetokounmpo.

Harden opted into the final year of a contract that is scheduled to pay him $35.6 million in 2023-24, then asked for a trade.

Former Pacers forward Sam Mitchell, one of the show hosts, added: “You’re a point guard who’s not a great defender. You got a guy behind you, the MVP, who can block shots and protect the rim, and hide your mistakes. And you want to leave that and play … where?

“I think it’s ugly, but it’s going to get worse before it gets better.”
