Newcastle 5-0 Crystal Palace: Five-star Magpies go third as they make huge statement in Champions League race with thumping victory in absence of Eddie Howe

Newcastle fans might be asking Jason Tindall to manage every game after tonight’s result.

The Magpies cruised to a 5-0 win over Crystal Palace while their assistant manager stepped in for Eddie Howe, who missed the clash after taking ill with pneumonia last week.

Five goals, five different goalscorers, and one of them was Newcastle’s £70m-rated target last summer – Marc Guehi – who scored an own goal to put the hosts 2-0 up.

Before then, Jacob Murphy opened the scoring with his third goal in as many games.

Fabian Schar, Harvey Barnes and Alexander Isak also contributed to the goalfest on Tyneside, which sent Newcastle up to third in the table, ahead of Nottingham Forest.
