He has also been on the radar of number of top clubs including Manchester United and Chelsea.

But reports suggest Ekitike, 19, is keen on the project of turning Newcastle into a European challenging club.

There have been claims that talks regarding a move to the Toon were heavily discussed in January but a deal couldn’t be completed and negotiatians have continued since.

The teenager is enjoying a breakthrough season, with Reims sitting 12th in the Ligue 1 table.

Ekitike has featured 24 times for the club in all competitions netting 10 goals and grabbing a further three assists.

Newcastle manager Eddie Howe is keen to add attacking talent to his side this summer with his budget expected to be sizeable following the Saudi backed takeover of the club.

January signing Chris Wood has only scored twice since his arrival and Callum Wilson is injury prone so a young striker is believed to be wanted by Howe.

And the Frenchman, who has been compared to Kylian Mbappe, could be one of his top targets this summer.

Newcastle are also believed to be in the market for a host of other attackers.

Arnaut Danjuma, Rafael Laeo and Jesse Lingard are among those to have been linked.
