Newcastle make club-record £69.9m bid for RB Leipzig forward Benjamin Sesko – with Alexander Isak's future at St James' Park still up in the air

Newcastle have tabled an official bid for RB Leipzig forward Benjamin Sesko.

Despite securing Champions League football under Eddie Howe last season the Magpies have endured a difficult start to the transfer window.

The club have offered £69.9million including add-ons for the Slovenia international, which would make Sesko a club-record signing if the deal is completed.

Newcastle’s bid comes as the club’s previous record arrival, Alexander Isak, remains in purgatory as he attempts to push through a move to Liverpool.
