Newcastle United and England defender Dan Burn has been hailed as a ‘legend’ after helping a motorist in need.

Multiple photos and videos went viral over the weekend after Burn was seen helping to push a stranger’s broken-down car safely off a roundabout.

It is understood that the incident took place on the Moor Farm roundabout in Cramlington, around 10 miles from Newcastle’s St James’ Park stadium.

One video, taken from inside a nearby vehicle, showed Burn, dressed in a tee-shirt and shorts, really putting his back into it as he assisted two other people in pushing the troubled car.

In the video, a child can be heard asking: ‘Mum, is that actually Dan Burn?’

The parent replies: ‘It is aye. Absolute legend.’

Burns had already secured legendary status on Tyneside by scoring at Wembley last month in Newcastle’s 2-1 win over Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final.

Five days after that famous final, which saw Newcastle end their 70-year wait for a major domestic trophy, Burn returned to Wembley to make his senior international debut for England.

The towering 6ft 7in defender, who grew up just a short drive away in Blyth, Northumberland, is known for his down-to-earth personality despite his rise to Premier League and international stardom.

Fans were quick to praise the 32-year-old online.

One X (formerly Twitter) user commented: ‘Dan Burn helping to push a broken down car off of Moor Farm roundabout earlier today. He is just a top lad isn’t he?’

Another message read: ‘Dan Burn living up to his local legend status.’

A third tweet quipped: ‘Wins Carabao Cup, pushes cars, owns PL attackers… What can’t Dan Burn do?’
