Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid claims the reigning Super Bowl champions did its due diligence before bringing Kareem Hunt back.
Hunt joined the Chiefs in 2017 as a rookie but was waived the following year after a video of him pushing and kicking a woman surfaced. The running back would end up in Cleveland after the Chiefs removed him from their roster.
Six years later, Hunt rejoins Kansas City’s practice squad after Isiah Pacheco suffered an injury that will likely keep him sidelined until October.
Speaking to the media, Reid admitted seeing improvements in Hunt that made them comfortable with bringing him back on board.
‘We felt like he did that,’ Reid said. ‘He did a nice job in Cleveland and we talked to people there and there are no issues there.’

His prior release stemmed from Hunt reportedly lying about the incident. However, his visible growth since kept the door open for reconciliation.
‘We felt okay about bringing him back,’ Reid said. ‘He’s 29 years old now, so time flies. He’s 29 years old and it looks like he’s grown up some.’
Reid also revealed that Hunt remained friends with Patrick Mahomes over the years and attended the quarterback’s wedding. During the occasion, Reid was able to have a conversation with Hunt.
As a rookie, Hunt lead the NFL in rushing yards with 1,327 and was named a Pro Bowler. Hunt tallied he ran for 2,151 yards and had 2,984 scrimmage yards during his 27 games with Kansas City in his stint.
From 2019 through last season, Hunt played in 62 games in brown and orange with 2,285 rushing yards and 3,342 scrimmage yards.
The Chiefs’ quest to a threepeat is off to good start at 2-0 with wins over the Ravens and the Bengals.
