Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice appeared to have sustained a serious injury after colliding with his own quarterback Sunday.

Rice was carted off the field during the first quarter of the Chiefs’ game against the Los Angeles Chargers Sunday.

He appeared to have suffered an knee injury after he was hit by Patrick Mahomes as the quarterback attempted to make a tackle after throwing an interception.

On just the Chiefs’ second possession of the divisional matchup at SoFi Stadium, Mahomes threw a pick which was intercepted by the Chargers’ Kristian Fulton.

As Fulton returned the interception, Rice stripped the ball but was accidentally hit by his own signal caller as Mahomes attempted to make a tackle on the play.

The wide out had to be helped off the field before being carted off to the locker room.

Rice appeared inconsolable as he exited the game, covering his face with a towel draped over his head.

He was later ruled out of the game with a knee injury by the Chiefs. The extent of the injury is currently unknown.

Chiefs defensive lineman Charles Omenihu, who is working to return from an injury of his own, shared fans’ devastation on social media.

‘God knows that double R CANT BE HURT,’ Omenihu wrote on X, later adding, ‘I’m sick I can’t lie.’

Just last month, Rice thanked Mahomes for being supportive during an offseason full of legal issues.

Rice faces a count of aggravated assault, one count of collision involving serious bodily injury, and six more counts of collision involving injury for his role in a car crash on a Dallas freeway back in March – when he was clocked going 119mph.

The former SMU receiver is also a suspect in an assault in a Dallas nightclub, but no charges have been filed.

In training camp, Rice answered questions for the first time, praising Mahomes saying, ‘He’s been very important.

‘He’s there for me whenever I need him on or off the field. He’s only a call away and he’s always going to pick up my call, so I got him.’
