Former Green Bay Packers star Brady Poppinga has sued a South California hospital and several of its doctors over the tragic death of his son last year, according to a report.
Julius Poppinga, the son of the former linebacker, died at the age of 17 in August 2023 after being hospitalized with an asthma attack.
Providence Cedars-Sinai Tarzana Medical Center, where the teenager had been admitted into ICU, is now facing legal action from Poppinga, who alleges medics at the hospital contributed to his son’s death.
The Super Bowl winner filed the lawsuit in Los Angeles this week, claiming that multiple doctors did not properly care for Julius, according to TMZ.
Brady and his wife Brooke state in the suit that they brought their son in to hospital on August 27, 2023 with chest pains and breathing issues.
However, despite around-the-clock care form doctors, Julius’s condition did not improve.

The parents claim that two days later Julius was drifting in and out of consciousness while struggling to breathe. At one point, he came to and was ‘tearful and afraid’ as he yelled to his mom that he thought ‘he was going to die.’
Brady and Brooke allege that a doctor ‘negligently and wrongfully concluded’ that Julius was having a panic attack. They allegedly prescribed him some medication, but Julius passed away a short while later.
The lawsuit states that an autopsy ruled that Julius died of a pulmonary embolism.
The Poppingas are suing for wrongful death due to medical negligence and are asking for unspecified damages.
Brady has previously spoken of his son’s death, paying tribute to Julius last September in a heartbreaking social media post.
‘I would like to thank EVERYONE for their unbelievably beautiful, sweet and loving compassion sent our way,’ he wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.
‘Julius is a special soul who has touched so many lives. He is missed, but we KNOW that through the Savior, we will see him and be with him again. #famliesareforever.’
Julius’s older sister Jasmine also shared a heartfelt, emotional message at the time, hailing him as ‘the best younger brother I could ever ask for.’

Julius was a junior at Westlake High School in Thousand Oaks, California. He played football like his famous father and was a defensive end, and also played lacrosse.
Brady, won the Super Bowl in 2011 with the Packers, his team beating the Steelers 31-25. He played eight seasons in the NFL following four seasons at Brigham Young University between 2001-2004.
He was drafted in the fourth round by Green Bay in the 2005 draft and played six seasons in Title Town.
In his penultimate pro football season, Brady played for the St. Louis Rams before one last season – in 2012 – with the Cowboys.
