Jets Lose Jermaine Johnson to Achilles Injury, Season in Doubt

One year after Aaron Rodgers was lost for the season with an Achilles injury in September, another key member of the New York Jets may have been dealt that same fate.

Defensive lineman Jermaine Johnson appears to have suffered the same injury during Sunday’s win over the Tennessee Titans during a third-quarter pass rush.

Johnson came off the right side of the offensive line, within the sightlines of Tennessee quarterback Will Levis, who stepped out of the pocket to avoid the sack.

As soon as Levis took off and he was unguarded, Johnson fell to the turf and did not get up.

After Jets’ trainers took a look at him, they brought out the cart to transport him to the locker room.

Johnson’s teammates gathered around him to pay their respects before continuing the game, including Solomon Thomas, who gave Johnson a long hug on the cart.

New York head coach Robert Saleh confirmed Johnson’s injury, although the exact severity was not immediately known.

Based on the reactions from most within the Jets organization, Johnson looks to be done for the year, much like Rodgers was last season after four offensive snaps.

Rodgers has made it through the first two games of this season unscathed, as he led the Jets to victory over the Titans as the second half of a two-game road trip to start the season.

The Jets do have a short week and play the Patriots at MetLife Stadium on Thursday night in an important, early-season AFC East clash.

It will be Rodgers first time playing at home since tearing his Achilles 12 months ago.
