The mere presence of musician John Legend was enough for viewers of ESPN’s ‘ManningCast’ to turn the program off as social media blasted the show for having him on.
Legend joined the show – cohosted by Peyton Manning and Eli Manning – to talk football as the Cincinnati Bengals and Dallas Cowboys played on ‘Monday Night Football.’
But within moments of making his appearance, football fans began slamming the program for bringing him onto the show on social media – without seemingly any particular reason for the disdain.
‘Legend the worst guest manningcast has ever had,’ wrote one fan on X, formerly Twitter.
‘Not interested at all seeing John Legend on #ManningCast,’ another fan posted.
One post read, ‘John legend on the Manning cast?!! GTFOH with that a**hole. Will be going back to the regular ESPN broadcast until that clown is gone.’

Another fan boldly declared, ‘After watching John Legend on Manningcast tonight I have come to the decision to not watch them again.’
One fan tried getting one of the brothers to ask a question about Legend’s association with controversial musician and producer Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs, tweeting, ‘Eli ask John Legend about the P Diddy parties.’
No such questions were asked and the topic itself was avoided altogether.
It’s unclear why fans had such a visceral reaction to the ‘All of Me’ singer, but social media has turned on Legend and his wife Chrissy Teigen over the past few years.
As for the game itself, the Bengals won 27-20 thanks in part to a special teams disaster late in the game.
Cincinnati punted the ball after the two minute warning, but it was blocked by Dallas. Instead of letting the ball roll, Cowboys player Amani Oruwariye tried fielding it, muffed it, and the Bengals recovered.
Three plays later, Bengals QB Joe Burrow found his favorite target, Ja’Marr Chase, to seal a win for Cincinnati.
