McNair Murder Mystery: Shocking Netflix Documentary Leaves Viewers Guessing

Netflix fans have been left wanting more after the new Steve McNair murder documentary that casts doubt on the official record of who killed the NFL star.

McNair was shot dead by his girlfriend Sahel ‘Jenni’ Kazemi in 2009 after their illicit relationship took a dark turn.

Though investigators have always been certain that Kazemi killed McNair and then herself, the Netflix show suggests that Adrian Gilliam, who sold Kazemi the gun she used for the crime, was more involved in the killing.

Netflix released Untold: The Murder of Air McNair this week, and X users have criticized the documentary for have no new information about the case

Various X users were underwhelmed by the documentary, and more than one person complained it had little information about the case's forensics

Gilliam isn’t introduced until the end of the 58-minute documentary, with the majority of the episode dedicated to McNair’s affair.

Now, various X users are complaining that the series is ‘incomplete’.

‘That Steve McNair documentary was really just more confusing than it was informative,’ wrote an X user.

Another person assumed potential participants declined to be in the documentary, which led to the series only having ‘stuff we already knew.’

Others were angered at what they thought was a documentary that left out crucial information about the crime.

‘I watched the Untold about Steve McNair, and not surprisingly, they did an awful job with it,’ tweeted one person.

‘There is so much information about the murder, investigation, and much more that was left out.’

The X user added that streamers who were disappointed with the documentary should listen to the Steve McNair: Fall of a Titan true crime podcast instead.

The late athlete seemingly had a successful family life after marrying his college sweetheart, Mechelle Cartwright, and fathering four sons.

However, McNair also engaged in multiple extramarital affairs, one being with then-19-year-old Sahel ‘Jenni’ Kazemi.

The couple enjoyed lavish vacations, and the former footballer even co-signed with Kazemi for a new car on her 20th birthday in May 2009.

Kazemi began to suffer financial problems and discovered McNair was having affairs with other women shortly afterward.

Following these problems, Kazemi invited McNair over to her Tennessee residence on July 4, 2009, and shot him four times before turning the gun on herself.

Although this information is crucial to why the murder-suicide may have happened, it’s unsurprising information for viewers who were looking for something new.

McNair and Kazemi’s murder-suicide was was not an airtight case in the eyes of some who followed the case, including private investigator Vincent Hill.

Hill claimed the Nashville police ‘made a lot of mistakes,’ one being their alleged believing a story told by Adrian Gilliam, who allegedly sold Kazemi the gun she used for the crime.

Gilliam also spoke with Kazemi more than once, and had a conversation with her before her and McNair’s deaths.

‘Adrian Gilliam lied about where he was at the time of the murders,’ Hill claimed in the documentary.

‘He lied about how many times he had been in contact with Jenni. His alibi is shot, he’s the last person to call her, and it’s his gun. It’s not rocket science.’

Another red flag was Wayne Neely – the man who discovered McNair’s and Kezemi’s bodies.

Instead of calling the police, he phoned McNair’s newly estranged friend Robert Gaddy, who then called authorities immediately afterward.

Neely was interviewed by police officers later that day, and video footage showed him saying he ‘knows a lot of police officers,’ before pulling out a stack of cash.

Despite this, detectives did not file any criminal charges against Neely.

Reddit users also criticized the documentary for what they perceived to be a lack of information about the forensics surrounding the case.

‘When the credits rolled I was floored. It was just a stunning lack of information in a documentary that had the word “murder” in the title,’ a Reddit user wrote.

‘It wasn’t called “the life and murder of Air McNair” or “The Birth of the Titans and the Death of the Star” or “the rise and fall of air.”‘
