NFL Analyst Slams Tom Brady as Rookie in Booth

NFL Analyst Slams Tom Brady as Rookie in Booth

Freed from the burdens of his daily show on Fox Sports’ cable channel, long-time columnist and former FS1 host Skip Bayless is now criticizing the parent company’s newest star, Tom Brady.

‘I listened to Tom Brady for a whole game today, then Tony Romo for a whole game,’ Bayless wrote on X during Sunday’s NFL action.

Brady appeared on the Fox network Sunday to call the Dallas Cowboys’ game against the visiting New Orleans Saints. Afterwards Romo, a former Cowboys quarterback who now serves as a CBS Sports color commentator, called Kansas City Chiefs-Cincinnati Bengals action from Arrowhead Stadium.

‘Romo gives you far more X&O insight and enlightenment,’ Bayless wrote. ‘Some ex QBs can see it and say it. Some can’t. Maybe Brady played more with indescribable feel and instinct. But … he’s just a booth rookie.’

Reactions to Bayless’ post were largely negative.

‘And you’re unemployed watching them make millions,’ one person remarked.

‘You can’t be serious,’ another added. ‘It’s his second game, it’s damn near Romo’s 2nd decade.’

Brady signed a reported $375 million, 10-year deal to join Fox Sports, but faced criticism after calling Cowboys-Cleveland Browns action in his Week 1 debut.

However, outside of Bayless, Brady’s critics were impressed with his improvement in Week 2.

‘Tom Brady is already wayyy more comfortable and natural in the booth this week than he was in week 1,’ Houston Rockets sideline reporter Vanessa Richardson wrote on X.

Sports Illustrated media podcaster Jimmy Traina noticed one particular exchange between Brady and Fox Sports play-by-play announcer Kevin Burkhardt, who asked the future Hall of Famer about Dallas quarterback Dak Prescott and one of the team’s young receivers.

‘Best moment of Tom Brady’s young broadcasting career just happened,’ Traina wrote on X. ‘After Cowboys rookie WR slips, leading to INT, Burkhardt asks if Prescott should go back to the rookie WR to get confidence going.

‘Brady: ‘Not today.’

Fox Sports NFL podcaster David Helman enjoyed that exchange as well.

‘Love Tom Brady’s honest[y] right there,’ he wrote. ‘I feel like most guys would say you’ve got to trust the WR in that situation, and Tom’s like ‘nah, don’t think I’m looking back his way after he did me like that.’

Bayless has been a free agent since leaving his long-time show, Undisputed, last month.

‘Today was my last show on Undisputed,’ Bayless wrote on X in August. ‘I’m leaving FS1. I’ve been planning to pursue other opportunities for several months. I had a great 8-year run with a lot of great people at FOX, but now I’m excited for what’s coming up. Stay tuned.’
